And loyally, he served
his king
We have all heard and
read tales about heroes. Blindly, they served the current state order or
power against any enemy from inside or outside. The line goes up from
ancient, legendary heroes to nowadays Superman. Now, I will tell you the real
tale about these monkeys in three different versions.
Once upon a time, there
was a great monkey king. He was said to be the direct descendent of the
banana god. His realm was as large as a monkey could walk in an hour in each
direction. The centre of his empire was the settlement where his palace and
the temple of the banana god had been built.
Once a very big monkey
came to the settlement. He was twice the size of all others and all the apes
watched him from their windows, as they didn’t dare to confront him on the
street. The king was afraid too and sent a servant to meet the newcomer and
invite him into the palace. Nevertheless, even the servant didn’t want to go
on the street to talk to the giant, the king had to kick him into the behind.
When the servant flew out
of the window by the kick he had received from his king, he landed directly
in front of the feet of the big monkey.
The giant was surprised,
“the monkeys in this settlement are strange,” he thought, “you can’t see them
and they fly out of the window.” The servant monkey wanted to run away, but
the big monkey had seized him by his tail and lifted him up in front of his
eyes to take a closer look at this special species. The small monkey hanging
on his tail paddled with all his four free extremities, “please, don’t eat
me!” The big monkey began to laugh so loudly that the roofs of some houses
were blown away. “The king would be very glad to have you as a guest in his
palace. I will show you the way.” “Yes, do so!” replied the newcomer and put
the servant to the ground but still holding his tail, as if he was afraid the
small monkey would fly away. Like a dog on a leash, the giant led the servant
by his tail and they entered the palace.
The king foreseeing that
the giant was much taller than him had got some extra pillows put on his high
throne, so at least he could look the guest into his eyes. Nevertheless even then,
the giant was taller than the king on his throne. Therefore the king soon
invited his guest to sit down. That way, the situation was a bit better, as
the giant now had slightly to look up at the king.
First version:
The king immediately
discovered that the muscle monster was not the most intelligent, so he soon
offered him the position of a general of all the army in the royalty to
butter him and to secure that the giant would work for him.
When the different banana
dishes had been laid in front of the big monkey, it took him only moments to
make them disappear in his big mouth. Satisfied he caressed his full belly
and fell asleep where he was.
The next day, the king
proposed the giant to have a small walk through the realm to show him the
value of his position as a general.
As they arrived at the
market place, the king ordered every inhabitant to come out of their houses.
“This is your new general,” the king said to his subjects, “and he has a good
appetite.”
The inhabitants
understood perfectly what the king meant and ran out into the forest to
collect all kind of fruits, honey and other delicacies.
After a certain time,
even the neighbouring kingdoms had heard about the reinforcement of the realm
and brought their tribute without even having been asked for.
A hard time for the
monkey people had begun because this monkey was just like a bottomless pit
and needed a lot of food, which of course the inhabitants had to provide.
Second version:
The big monkey was not
only a mountain of muscles but rather intelligent as well. Immediately, he
discovered that the king was afraid of him and was not really liked by his
subjects. Furthermore, he did not have many guards around him because till
the arrival of the giant, the king had been the strongest in the realm and
nobody dared to oppose him.
The king ordered his
servants to prepare a big meal for the guest. The giant made all the dishes
brought before him disappear in the glimpse of moment. Then, he caressed his
belly and feigned tiredness.
When the king went to his
chambers to have a rest, the big monkey stood up, looked around and as nobody
dared to contradict him, he sat down on the throne of the king.
The next morning, the
former king was woken up by one of his servants. But the servant didn’t treat
him like a king anymore, therefore the former king knew exactly that he had
lost power and quietly climbed out of the window and disappeared. The giant
was given the crown and put it onto his head.
Then, he went to the
balcony which looked at the market place and when the monkeys down there
noticed the giant with the king’s crown on his head, they knew that a change
of power had taken place. A guard came out of the gate onto the square and
shouted: “The old king has escaped through the window. Long live the new
king!”
At first, the monkey
people were surprised because they had thought that the old king would try to
butter the giant in making him the general of the non-existing royal army or
proposing the giant to marry his daughter.
Nevertheless, they waited
for what would happen now.
“I’m your new king,” he
said to his subjects, “and I have a good appetite.”
The inhabitants
understood perfectly what the new king meant and ran out into the forest to
collect all kind of fruits, honey and other delicacies.
After a certain time,
even the neighbouring kingdoms had heard about the reinforcement of the realm
and brought their tribute without even having been asked for.
A hard time for the
monkey people began because this monkey was just like a bottomless pit and
needed a lot of food, which of course the inhabitants had to provide.
Third version:
The big monkey was not
only a mountain of muscles but rather intelligent as well. Immediately, he
discovered that the king was afraid of him and was not really liked by his subjects.
But he had many guards around him to show everybody that he was the strongest
in the realm, that way nobody dared to oppose him.
The king had a very
snooty character, expected everybody to bow low when meeting him and was
upset if somebody wasn’t enough obedient and submissive.
The giant on the other
hand was rather proud and not used to bowing in front of others. When
arriving in the settlement, he saw that it was wealthy realm and would have
liked to make these monkey people work for him, “They will make good
servants,” he thought.
Now, they stood in front
of each other, his majesty not daring to arrest the newcomer and the giant
not daring to overthrow the regent.
His royal highness
ordered the servants to prepare a big meal for the guest. The giant made all
the dishes brought before him disappear in the glimpse of moment. Then, he
caressed his belly and feigned tiredness.
The king knew that the
newcomer was a great threat to his reign, so when he went to have a rest, he
ordered his guards to keep watch in front of his bedrooms. The big monkey
looked around in the hall of the throne and knew that he was not strong
enough to vanquish the guards, so he left the palace and installed his camp a
bit away from the settlement.
The next morning, the
king ordered the monkey people to go on with their daily work and bring him
their tribute, but when they were outside the settlement they were confronted
by the giant who ordered them to work for him as well.
A hard time for the
monkey people began because now they had two parasites sitting on their
shoulders.
