The frightening forest

On the market place a big crowd of monkeys had gathered, they were listening to an old monkey who told them about the last forest not far from the village. “Don’t go there! There are bad spirits killing you. Look at that,” and he showed them a terribly looking deep but already healed wound. Those nearest shied away, those behind them tried to get closer to see better. “I received this in the forest and it nearly cost my life to get out again.” Everybody looked at him with deep respect. The activity on the market place continued, some were buying, others selling.
From far that forest didn’t really look as dangerous as the old monkey had told them but the monkeys of the village were very superstitious and inside the forest it was very dark as it was the last untouched primeval wood with dense thicket which made it impenetrable and a real maze.
For a very long time, the monkeys didn’t even go near it. However, once children were playing hide and seek near it and one of the kids hid behind the first trees and of course, could not be found by the other because they didn’t dare to go even to near to the wood. First, that kid was very afraid to hide in those trees but as nothing special happened, it hid there again and again without telling the others where it had disappeared. When that monkey had grown up, he didn’t play hide and seek anymore, but was rather curious what could be discovered inside the mysterious forest.
So, one day, that monkey took some food with himself and entered the density of the trees. Of course, he was not the bravest but looking around him and listening to the tumult between the trees, he could only observe the usual noise of birds, insects and the sound of the wind playing with the leaves. Therefore, he entered deeper and deeper into the forest. He could only advance very slowly because the thicket was so dense but after some hours of struggling through branches, twigs and leaves of trees, bushes and shrubs, he suddenly reached a clearing. It looked like a paradise with flowers, fruit trees, small waterfalls and basins. The air there was cool because of the water and perfumed by the plants, fruits and flowers.
Suddenly, he stopped because he heard steps coming closer. He hid behind one of the rosebushes and watched. Then he saw the old monkey. First, he wanted to greet him but then he began to think. “Why had the old monkey told all the other inhabitants of the village that there were murderous spirits in the forest?” He remembered how the villagers had destroyed the environment around them and understood that the old monkey had told all the horrible tales to prevent others to come to his garden and destroy his paradise.
After having watched the old monkey for some time looking after his wonderful garden with the most tender care, he decided not to betray his being there but to leave the paradise and not to tell anybody about it.
One day again at the market place, when the old monkey told his tales about the mysterious forest, that young monkey joined into the story telling, “Just yesterday, I came to close to some of the trees of the wood and I heard terrible noises and a branch reached out to catch me. I could hardly escape.” Only for a moment, the young and the old monkey looked into each other’s eyes and both understood the meaning, one realized that his paradise had been discovered and the other felt his promise being accepted and trusted not to tell anybody about the secret.
These two monkeys never talked to each other but from that day on, there was a warm smile in their eyes when they met at the market place.
Life went on normally, but one day the young monkey noticed that the old had not been to the market for two weeks. “Something must have happened,” he thought. Therefore, he decided to enter the wood again. After some hours, he had reached the garden of the old monkey and began to look around.
Suddenly, he saw the feet of the old under a tree. When he came nearer, the old monkey seemed to be sleeping with a happy smile on his face. First, the young monkey wanted to go away silently, but then went closer. The body of the old monkey had something strange on him. Now, it was clear; the old monkey had died.
Then, he found a sheet of paper with these words on it: “My dear young friend! I’m very grateful that you didn’t tell anybody about my paradise and that way helped its survival. I’m old and going to die. I want you to be my heir.”
Tears were running down the cheeks of the young monkey. He sat near the dead body for some hours and then buried him.
The next morning, he went back to the village. For some days, he didn’t talk to anybody, but then he decided to tell the other inhabitants about what had happened and to lead them to the paradise. He hoped that something would change in them when they saw the wonderful garden. He hoped they would respect the heritage of the old monkey and preserve the last paradise.

The smile

Once upon a time, there was a monkey who always smiled. He had a very nice smile but everybody around him knew that his smile was not sincere because he smiled at the flowers on the meadow, when the sun shone, when it rained, at the lion and the crocodile, at monkeys when they laughed and even when they cried.
Then one day, he was very sad because one of his favourite toys had broken. However, even then, he couldn’t stop smiling. So, he walked around with a big smile on his face although tears were running down his face.
There was a female monkey who felt pity for him and tried to help him. First, she massaged and kneaded his face because she thought that maybe his face muscles were caught in a cramp but it didn’t help, she tried different herbs and creams but even those didn’t soften his smile. Then, she had a wonderful idea; she took a lemon and stuffed it in his mouth. The bitter taste of this fruit suddenly tore is lips forward to form of a pointed “o”.
This recipe could be used even today!

The simpler the better

Once upon a time, there was a big forest in a valley with high mountains around it and a clearing in the centre. The tree with the finest fruits stood In the middle of the clearing. For a very long time, the two monkeys living in the valley had peacefully lived together and shared the fruits from the tree sometimes meeting in the shadow of it.
However one day, nobody could tell why, the two monkeys reached out for a very sweet looking fruit at the same time and began to quarrel about it. First, they hit, pushed and pulled each other’s hair, then, one took a stick and beat the other and at the end, stones were thrown. Both were very angry and very tired but they promised to continue the fight.
During the night, one of them decided that he needed help and formed a monkey soldier out of clay. “This soldier doesn’t need brains because he only has to fight for me,” he thought.
The next morning, he went to the tree with his reinforcement and the other monkey was rather surprised when he saw the clay soldier. He was even more astonished when he discovered that the clay soldier fought excellently and was much stronger than both monkeys were together.
At night, the beaten monkey produced his own soldier, but not only one, he made two of them.
The next day, he should be the winner of the battle.
This went on for some time until there were around a hundred soldiers on each side filling the whole clearing.
Some kind of new tactics had to be found. So, one of the monkeys had the idea to inject some braveness into his soldiers.
The next day, his soldiers resulted to fight better than those of his opponent did.
In the evening, the other injected judgement into his soldiers and they fought smarter than those of his opponent did and won the battle that day.
Then, they injected intuition and creativity into their soldiers, and after that flexibility.
The soldiers became more and more professional with ability, decisiveness, cleverness, intelligence, empathy and flexibility. However, because of these skills, they partly lost their simple-mindedness, obedience, submissiveness, manageability, indifference and loyalty and very often looked at each other in surprise and were wondering why they were fighting for somebody else. In the end, they chased the two monkey kings and established democracies.

Eldorado

"¿Vendrás conmigo a buscar a Eldorado?" preguntó.

Eldorado, the golden country

Once upon a time, there was a young monkey who believed every legend and tale he was told. However one day, he had a conversation with one of his friends. ”Will you come with me to find Eldorado?” he asked. “Why do you think nobody is going there or has ever found that fabulous country?” his friend replied.
Our hero fell in deep thoughts. Therefore, he asked the old storytellers why nobody was going there or had ever found that fabulous country but none of them wanted to give him an acceptable answer or they just turned away staring at him in disbelief.
When he had grown up, he decided to travel around the planet to find out about the truth. Therefore, he said good-bye to all his relatives and friends and went away.
On his journey, he found a country where the monkeys washed themselves with sand because they didn’t have much water even to drink. Then, he came to a country, where the houses were made of cheese and chocolate and clocks were hanging around everywhere. They hurried from place to place because it was considered a major crime to be late. There was a country where the monkeys didn’t want to have children anymore because they preferred to have a good carrier. He visited a country where females had to stay at home and couldn’t drive a car. He found a country where the monkeys still chased the deer with the help of bow and arrow and believed that the sun, the moon, the trees and the rain were different gods and goddesses. Then, he came to a country, where the monkeys made expeditions to other planets because they had destroyed the nature around them. There was a country where the monkeys didn’t even know of the existence of other countries and didn’t like any foreigners. He visited a country where he was told that everybody had to live according to his destiny and nothing could be changed.
And when he had grown very old himself, he came to a country where the monkeys with slit eyes bowed deeply to each other. He asked them where he could find the country where people lived longest and happily, so they questioned him because he looked so very old where he was from and that they would really like to visit his country because the monkeys there must be the longest living and happiest.
