Think before acting!

Once upon a time, there was a big valley with two empires and a large river in the middle served as border for them. On one side of the water, there were the monkeys believing in the banana god and on the other side the believers of the coconut god. For a long time, they had been in war with each other, then both exhausted, war activity ended. The ancestors in both camps still remembered the fighting and told their progenies frightening stories about their former enemies. Therefore, when they saw the other on the opposite shore, they screamed and shouted at them and swore revenge for alleged grievances. Some even threw stones, spears or fired their arrows, but the river was just too large so that the projectiles always landed somewhere in the middle of the river without causing any harm. In these cases, those on the other side used to laugh loudly, “you could never kill me. Come over and you will get what you deserve!”
The monkey is an inquisitive being and after many generations, there were some young monkeys, who built small boats and paddled over to the other side. Of course, they didn’t tell their elders about it because they knew that elders hadn’t forgotten the very old feud.
Nevertheless, after a certain time, the elders discovered that their grandsons and granddaughters wore new clothes and jewellery that had not been known before. First, the elders forbade their youngsters to wear them, but without much success. Then, they created laws against it so that the youngsters only wore the new fashion when the elders were not there.
Of course, the elders felt that their influence on their grandchildren weakened but they thought it was undermined by the enemy from the other side of the river. Wilder and wilder, the elders called for revenge of the old and new alleged grievances and at the end for war.
Many of the young monkeys on both sides of the river knew that all this propaganda against the people of the other side were just pure nonsense but they didn’t dare to contradict their elders.
A general assembly of all the people was convened to announce the decision of the Council of Elders. “We have considered all possibilities and we, the elders, came to the conclusion that there is no other way than war against our ancient enemy, the people of the empire on the other side of the water. We must preserve and defend our culture, our people.” Many of the young monkeys were very sad and hung their heads because they knew that on the other side of the river, the young monkeys there were as sad as they were. “Tomorrow, we will manufacture weapons and boats in order to begin the war within ten days.”
Everybody in the assembly was very silent.
Suddenly, a young female monkey stood up, “I don’t want that war. The monkeys on the other side of the river are my friends.”
Everybody looked at the female monkey, the youngers watched her with admiration and fear for her, the elders observed her with suspicion and hate.
“Are you a spy?” asked the speaker of the elders. “Do you call those dogs on the other side of the river your friends?” “Yes, the monkeys on the other side of the river are my friends,” replied the female monkey emphatically. “Don’t you remember who gave you birth who nourished and clothed you? Don’t you have any respect for the tradition of your ancestor? For our culture? For our values? For us, the older generation?” the elder seemed exhausted. He had not expected anything like that. “How dare you to contradict us?” he gasped, “you eat our bananas and coconuts. Don’t you feel ashamed? If you don’t change your mind you can’t be member of our tribe anymore.”
Quietly but audible for everybody in the assembly, she said, “I love my parents and my ancestors. I have friends amongst this tribe and amongst the other tribe. I don’t want my friends to fight against each other in a senseless war.”
The elder nearly fell of the pulpit, “you are not our child anymore. Go! Leave our assembly! You have two hours to leave our lands. Maybe, you will find refuge in the camp of our enemies.”
The young female monkey had tears in her eyes but slowly she turned and slowly went away. Shortly after that, the assembly was dissolved.
The female went to her house to get her few possessions in order to leave her homeland.
Her parents, brothers and sisters were very sad and tried to convince her to change her mind, “where do you want to go? What do you want to do?” “If my tribe forces me to choose between them and my friends, they can’t be a good tribe,” she replied.
At the end of the settlement, there were members of the war party spitting at her and calling her traitor.
She went up into the mountains and found a large cave where she settled down. At night, she lit a fire and watched the stars. First, she felt very lonely but then, she observed a fire somewhere on the opposite side of the valley on the other side of the river. She knew that somebody from the other tribe had made the same decision as her.
During the day, she could see her tribe building a big ship in order to ferry across the river but the construction went very slowly as shipbuilding had not been exercised for a long time.
She had been in the mountains for two nights, when she heard some rustle in between the trees. She listened carefully and suddenly the saw one of her girlfriends coming out of the forest.
This female informed her about everything what was happening in the settlement, that the ship was not really ready for shipping, that the warriors would probably drown in the river and that most of the young monkeys in the tribe had the same opinion as her. “We must contact our friends at the other side of the river and inform them about what’s happening here.”
So, they went down to the river a bit away from the settlement, took out their small boats hidden in the reeds and paddled over to the other side. In the middle of the water, they suddenly saw another boat coming towards them. First, they thought that those were warriors from the other tribe, but then, they recognized their friends. They all were happy to meet.
They agreed that the elders of both sides were a bit crazy, that they wanted to make war across the water but were not even able to build a normal ship to cross the river. Furthermore, they consented that something had to be done to save the elders and their warriors from drowning.
For the next days, while the elders and warriors were working on their useless ship on both sides of the river, the young rebels pulled a liana with many tree trunks hanging on it across the water.
Then, the big day arrived; Elders and warriors on both sides of the river got on their ships to ferry across the water. Drums were beaten, horns were blown and shouts of war could be heard.
If it hadn’t been so sad, one would have laughed. The ships had not even reached the middle of the river when both vehicles capsized and the elders and their warriors were in danger of drowning. The fast-flowing water carried them to the liana with tree trunks.
Quickly, the young rebels of both sides came with their small boats and rescued the wet monkeys one by one to the secure shore.
There, female monkeys lit fires to prepare banana soup and coconut tea to warm the sodden heroes of the failed war.
Still for many generations to come, the young rebels could not convince the elders to live in peace with the other tribe on the other side of the river.
But one day, the young monkeys built a bridge ……….

8) A szaunában 2019
„Elcsaltátok a választásokat.
Később a vízben, a két ellenzéki vitába keveredik egymással. „Haha! Vége a cigi szünetnek.”

Now, it was the father’s turn again to tell his children a tale and he wanted to make them aware of the beauty of art.

A memory

Miguelito, the monkey, was walking through the narrow streets of the town protected against the hot sun and rain alike by balconies hanging over far to the opposite houses nearly covering the sky. He had just arrived and was looking for shelter and some banana soup to fill his growling stomach. As it was getting dark, fewer and fewer people were on the streets and as the moon came up, he soon found himself totally alone.
His legs were tired, so he sat down, took his guitar and began to play silently. Who was asleep wouldn’t hear him, only one listening carefully could perceive his gentle voice.
Often, he looked up to make certain that at least the moon would lend him its ear. He had been playing for some time when he noticed that something was covering the moon because a light shadow fell over his guitar.
However, each time he looked up the shadow quickly disappeared. Therefore, he continued to play hoping he would get a glimpse of the person causing the shadow.
Then, a basket was lowered down on a rope with a blanket and some food in it. Quietly, he sang another song accompanied by his guitar, took the presents from the basket and slowly went away to look for a place to sleep.
The next evening, he had still not found a place for himself in the town, so he went to the balcony where he had been so well received the day before and played some tunes again. Once more, a shadow appeared over his guitar and after some time, the basket was lowered with some food and drink in it.
This went on for around a month. Each time he sang and played silently under the balcony, he received some food and drink. His music was never too loud as to disturb anybody because he only played and sang for one person whom he never saw.
Then one day, the basket contained not only food and drink but also a roll of canvas and a letter saying, “you inspired me. Keep this in memory!” He unrolled the canvas and the portrait of a young girl could be seen on a painting with the loveliest smile in the world, nevertheless the eyes were his own. It was like a unification between him and the unknown her. He was not only a musician but a painter as well and instantly recognized the quality of the work, the brushwork, the choice of the colours. Did he sing and play for a princess of beauty or maybe a godly muse?
The next day, as he was walking on the street, two guards stopped him. First, he was afraid when they told him to follow them. Even the people around him looked at him with suspicious eyes, as if they wanted to say, “now, you stranger! You will get your punishment!” There was no chance of escaping; he had to follow the guards.
They brought him to the palace of the queen. At the entrance, he was handed over to a servant who ordered him to enter a big hall and sit down. This chamber was richly decorated and many paintings, especially portraits, were hanging on the walls. But non of those pictures resembled the quality of the canvas, he had received the evening before.
Then a large hinged door opened and he was called in. In front of him at the other side of the wide hall, there were a big throne and some smaller seats beside and below it. He tried to discern whether one of those females there was the one having painted the canvas for him, but all except the queen wore veils so that only their eyes could be seen.
The queen asked him to play and sing as silently as he had done in the street at night. She and her company were delighted by his music and so he became first musician of the court. After a time, his talent as a painter and architect were discovered.
He was highly appreciated at the court for all his lifetime and when he died, the canvas was found in his rooms.
Today, the painting can be seen in the museum by the name of “Mona Lisa”.

The children were delighted be the tale of their father and fell asleep with a lovely smile on their faces.

The next evening, the father hurried home because he was very curious about his children telling him the next part of the museum’s tale.

The children began like this!

Of course, those temples needed decoration; At the beginning, they brought flowers into the temple, but those flowers soon lost their petals and colours and had to be changed nearly daily because they withered. Then they carved figures like flowers, trees and animals, the sun, moon and stars into the stone, then they used colours which they extracted of the soil or of plants, sculptures and statues were shaped. This was the beginning of art.
The temples were not only a forum to gather but as well exchange information. Of course, not everybody could remember all the commandments and guidelines, which were expressed to improve coexistence, so they thought about a method to record them. Signs with a certain meaning were invented. At the beginning these resembled to small pictures, then to sounds and at the end to letters.
Naturally, everybody had to learn them and schools were established, first for everybody and after some generations only for children.
One day, one of the monkeys told the others that those inscriptions had been written long ago. First everybody looked at him in surprise but then, they understood that there was a difference between now, ago and coming times. That is present, past and future.
Soon all the walls very filled with pictures, signs and letters. Another method had to be found to transmit information. First they wrote on leaves and pieces of wood, then paper was invented. And paper could even be sent to others in other valleys. Monkeys were running around in the whole country to carry letters, then pigeons were employed. At the end, those mail carriers rode on carriages and horses.
For long, the whole country had been discovered and some meditated what could be on the other side of the great water. One monkey wanted to swim across the ocean but soon came back very exhausted. Then he sat on planks but he couldn’t take food so he nearly starved of hunger. Therefore, he built a boat but the waves were too violent. After a number of failed attempts, others came to his help and they constructed a big ship with sails and paddles.
A big crowd was gathering on the beach to see the ship and its crew off when they left to navigate across the big water.
They already knew the track of the sun and stars and followed them. So soon, other islands and continents were discovered.
The monkey inhabitants of these lands with thick tails, with thin arms, with small ears, with big noses, with short legs and long legs were very surprised to see these strange monkeys arriving at their shores. First, they thought those arriving were gods from heaven. The discovering monkeys spread the knowledge about the planet all over the lands, islands and continents.
Then, they sailed around the planet and noticed that it wasn’t a plate but a globe.
The ambition of those monkeys had no limits and each time, they observed the birds flying, it awakened their desire to do the same. First, they just jumped off high trees and flatted their arms like those of birds. Of course, the result was many broken bones.
For thousands of years, the dream of the flying monkey just remained fantasy but with the invention of the engine, the monkey hood was finally capable to conquer the air as well.
Radio waves and electricity made it possible to communicate by phone and all around the world without even using paper.
Now the monkey raised his eyes towards the sky. He wanted to visit the home of his sun, moon and star gods and goddesses. Therefore, he built a rocket with turbines and left his planet.
He discovered that the sun was much bigger than his own home. Suddenly, he felt so small.
He found out that he was the only living being in his galaxy. So, he decided to travel further. After many billions of light years in another galaxy, he suddenly perceived strange lights, din and movements, and as he came nearer, he could discern a tiny, blue planet.
It stank, was loud, tiny creatures shitted all around the place, killed each others because of religion or greed, plundered nature.
With horror, he discovered that these seemingly intelligent creature, who called themselves humans, would sooner or later detect the peaceful planet of the monkeys and destroy it.

That night, the father couldn’t sleep.
